The best short docs from around the world peppered with some music videos peppered in to punctuate the beats:

DANCEHALL IS US | Russia |Egor Papulov | 19:15 |

In the inner city neighborhoods of Kingston, Jamaica, music and dance are much more than just ways of letting off steam. Dancehall culture has emerged and developed since the 1970s, born in the halls where people gathered to talk, flirt and dance. In contrast to reggae music, with its spiritual themes, dancehall is generally more about sexuality, violence, materialism and dancing. Its development parallels in some ways that of hip hop culture in the US, with artists like Rihanna crossing over.

This short documentary explores dancehall from the perspective of its creators (both musicians and dancers) and its historians. And if that sounds dry, we’re going to turn it up LOUD!

Beginning with one lone scout who believed he could play professionally, to a tour of Vietnam, many classrooms, and finally back into baseball as a team doctor for the Toronto Blue Jays – Ron’s path is charted as his sons learn how chance laid out the course of their father’s life.

ʻĀINA: THAT WHICH FEEDS US | USA | Josh Thome | 23:00 |

ʻĀINA (pronounced “eye-nah”) means, “that which feeds us” in the Hawaiian language. The film highlights a way to address some of the most pressing environmental and health crises facing the island of Kauai – and of island Earth. That may sound like an outstanding claim, but as ʻĀINA vividly illustrates, such is the power of agriculture and consumer choices for people and the planet.
